Volgograd South Thousands Without Hot Water and Heat

Residents of the trans-canal part of the Krasnoarmeysky district report massive outages of hot water and heating. People living on Gagrinskaya, Saushinskaya streets, Stoletof Avenue, and Olimpiyskaya are freezing in their apartments and cannot get a clear explanation for what happened.

«Mass outages of water, no hot water and no heating either. The cause is an accident on the networks, as we were told. They should fix it by 9:00 PM, but for now people are waiting and freezing. In such cold, we»re sitting in icy houses,« says a resident. »But that«s not even the worst part. If there»s no supply of coolant, it means there«s no pressure in the pipes. And since there»s no pressure in the pipes, there«s no guarantee that they will hold up when restarted, and that some loud utility accident won»t happen in the district.«

In the housing and utilities department of the Krasnoarmeysky district administration, they reported that today «Heating Supply Concessions» were supposed to carry out scheduled work:

«Management companies were supposed to warn people that there would be heating shutdowns, »Heating Supply Concessions« are conducting scheduled work. Heat should be restored by evening. Perhaps some accident occurred there, but that needs to be found out from »Concessions«,» said the housing and utilities department.

Representatives of «Heating Supply Concessions» reported that the cause of the outage was a utility accident:

«Currently, specialists from »Heating Supply Concessions« are conducting restoration work on a section of the heating network on Olimpiyskaya Street. Due to this, the supply of heating and hot water to a number of houses on Stoletof Avenue and Gagrinskaya Street has been temporarily suspended. Work will be completed by the end of the day,» reported the press service of «Concessions.»

Recall that residents of at least three apartment buildings in Volgograd are suffering from boiling water spills from pipes. At the address Stoletof, 2, boiling water has been flowing since 1:30 AM, and residents of the house at Saushinskaya, 12, in the same Krasnoarmeysky district, have been flooded since yesterday evening. Residents of an apartment building even recorded a video appeal to the Prosecutor General«s Office and to Governor Andrey Bocharov with a request to save their emergency house from flooding.
