Volgograd Sees Funeral Refusal, Market Fire, and Pump Station Trial

A fire at the Tulak wholesale market caused significant damage, and a trial is underway for a sewage pump station explosion that killed six people.

A major fire raged overnight at the Tulak wholesale construction market, destroying at least five pavilions with building materials and plumbing fixtures. The fire was fully extinguished only by 3 a.m. on January 28.
In the Krasnoarmeysky District Court, arguments were held in the criminal case concerning the explosion at sewage pumping station No. 4, which killed six people. The defendant is Dmitry Lebedev, chief engineer of «Water Supply Concessions». The prosecution is seeking 8.5 years of imprisonment in a settlement colony for him, insisting on proven guilt, while the defense claims the incident occurred due to a tragic confluence of circumstances.
Ernest Khachaturov has been refusing to bury his son Alexander for over a year. According to command reports, Alexander died while performing a combat mission in the special military operation zone. However, the official death certificate for the 27-year-old man states the cause as a severe heart disease, which leads the father to doubt the circumstances of the death.
In the Krasnoarmeysky District on the same day, a farewell was held for a 14-year-old schoolgirl who fell from a window. Relatives and concerned residents attended the ceremony, bringing flowers and toys in support of the family.
Many residents of Volgograd received utility bills with amounts approximately double those from December. The main increase was in heating costs. The press service of the calculation center stated that the indicated figures are not final and recommended not to worry.
