Volgograd residents complain of stench 'like carrion or sewage'

Residents in the Angarsky neighborhood have been experiencing a disgusting stench in the evening and nighttime for the second week. According to locals, the unexplained odor resembles the «aroma» of sour cabbage, rotten meat, and sewage and is concentrated around the «Akhtuba Plant» tram stop.
Townspeople first noticed the stench about two weeks ago. Over time, the smell has not disappeared and has begun to appear regularly in the evenings.
«I was riding the tram home, and in the area between the regional hospital and Akhtuba, it started to smell strange in the cabin. When we approached the »Akhtuba Plant« stop and the tram doors opened, the smell became unbearable. At first, it was like sour cabbage, and then it started to smell like carrion,» a Volgograd resident recounted. «And again yesterday, I was riding in the evening, and there was an impossible stench at Akhtuba, as if from a sewer. But in the morning and during the day, there»s no such smell!«
The reception office of the Akhtuba plant reported that they had not noticed any such problem.
«We didn»t smell anything during the workday. Our production does not use substances whose emissions could be the cause of this. We«ve also had no utility accidents. We»ve seen various utility service crews repeatedly doing some work along the road, but more towards Nilskaia Street—everything is dug up there, pipes are being laid, and the work has been going on since autumn, but, I repeat, we did not smell anything,« said the secretary to the general director.
The «Water Supply Concessions» company reported that there have been no utility accidents in the specified area.
«No reports of sewage network leaks at this address have been received by »Water Supply Concessions.« A crew will inspect the networks in the near future.»
The V1.RU editorial office is checking with the ecology committee to see if complaints about the vile smell have been filed and what caused it. A similar inquiry has been sent to the city administration.
Recall that in the fall, townspeople already complained about a vile smell. At that time, environmentalists blamed foggy weather for the acrid stench in central Volgograd, which residents complained about for several days. According to specialists, the fog could have caused an accumulation of exhaust fumes, which residents perceived as a smell of burning. In all districts of Volgograd, residents also smelled the stench of fried hooves, medications, and chemicals.
