A Volgograd man recovered over two million rubles (approximately $22,000 at current rates) from a plastic surgery clinic for a failed operation. The surgery was performed in 2022, but several more interventions were needed to correct the initial work. Only after multiple procedures were the defects fixed, and in court, he recovered about two million rubles for the surgeons« poor performance.
As follows from the decision published on the website of the Dzerzhinsky District Court, on April 24, 2022 and February 17, 2023, agreements were concluded between the patient and LLC «Lux Medclinic» as well as LLC «Maka-Med» for the provision of paid medical services in plastic surgery.
The court decision states, «The said services were provided to him by the defendants improperly, as established by the appellate ruling of the judicial panel for civil cases of the Volgograd Regional Court dated November 20, 2024, with reference to the existence of a causal link between the services provided and the adverse consequences for his health and appearance.»
Subsequently, the man underwent another operation, but at a different clinic referred by the first one. By that time, he had already paid over half a million rubles (approximately $5,600) for two surgeries that not only failed to correct the old problems but also added a host of new ones.
Later, the man repeatedly turned to a third private network clinic in the capital. There, he was diagnosed with a whole range of nasal issues, and the list of diagnoses, according to the court documents, paints a full picture of complications after the failed rhinoplasty.
«According to the conclusion: CT scan findings of bilateral maxillary sinusitis, rhinitis, local hyperplasia of the mucosa of all paranasal sinuses,» described in the first court decision, «hypertrophy of the nasal turbinates on both sides, deviation of the nasal septum.»
Eventually, the patient sued the clinics. The first lawsuit was filed in 2023, where claims for compensation for damages both for the surgery and for hospital stay were only partially satisfied, and moral compensation was denied on January 31, 2024. The decision was unsuccessfully appealed in the Volgograd Regional Court. Nevertheless, the same case involves four writs of execution.
«From the above, it is evident that the complication of the patient»s health is due to errors made by plastic surgeons in diagnosis, planning, performance of the plastic surgery, and treatment, in connection with which a direct causal link is seen between the actions of the plastic surgeons (clinics) and the occurrence of adverse consequences for the patient,« concluded the court.
In the end, the man managed to correct all problems at a capital institute, paying 631 thousand rubles (approximately $7,000) for the operation. To recover losses, the man also went to court. The claim was also satisfied—the clinics will pay the man over two million rubles.
«From the defendants, jointly and severally, in favor of the plaintiff, damages in the amount of 684,510 rubles (approximately $7,600) were recovered, a penalty for the period from September 9, 2025 to December 17, 2025—684,510 rubles (approximately $7,600),» reported the joint press service of the courts of the Volgograd region, «interest for the use of others» monetary funds for the period from September 9, 2025 to December 17, 2025—31,506 rubles (approximately $350), compensation for moral harm—10,000 rubles (approximately $111), a fine—705,263 rubles (approximately $7,800), expenses for payment of legal services—80,000 rubles (approximately $889).« The decision was made in absentia, was not appealed, and entered into legal force.
