4 February saw several significant events in the Volgograd region.

Drone attack on the region

On the night of February 4, a drone threat alert was declared in the region, and it was reissued in the morning. This led to restrictions on the arrival and departure of aircraft at Volgograd Airport. Governor Andrei Bocharov reported that air defense forces repelled a terrorist attack using drones targeting industrial facilities in the south of the city. For their safety, students from one school in the Krasnoarmeysky district were moved to shelters. Later, the Russian Ministry of Defense stated that nine UAVs were destroyed over the region that morning.

Two years in prison for Telegram comments

A 35-year-old resident of Surovikino received a two-year prison sentence for justifying terrorist activity. According to the Volgograd Regional FSB Directorate, the man made statements in the Telegram messenger positively evaluating the activities of a Ukrainian paramilitary group recognized as terrorist in Russia. The name of this organization was not specified.

Sale of the main post office’s round hall

Initial rumors about the possible sale of the large classical hall in the main post office building emerged in December 2025. At that time, Russian Post was only considering the possibility. On February 3, information spread that employees had been told to pack their belongings by the end of the month. However, on February 4, it became known that the post office’s relocation is tentatively scheduled for April 2026. The future owner of the premises, which houses a Lenin monument, has not yet been determined.

Trial for relationship with a minor

Criminal proceedings against Eldor Azizov, the director of the Kaustik plant, accused of engaging in sexual relations with a minor, have resumed. The trial is being held behind closed doors, with Judge Veronika Kushch presiding. She previously handled the case of former head of the regional State Traffic Safety Inspectorate Alexander Stepanov. Azizov himself commented on the situation only once: “I don’t know what these people are trying to achieve. I can say that I first saw the victim in my life at the court hearing.”

Cause of death of a 12-year-old schoolboy

Initially, it was believed that the child’s death in Petrov Val resulted from an impact injury sustained in a fall while on his way to a session with a psychologist. However, later the Investigative Committee reported that no hematomas were found on his head, and the schoolboy died due to health problems. The exact cause of death is being determined.

Cancellation of school classes

Due to frost and icy conditions, schools in nine cities and districts of the region partially or fully switched to remote learning. On February 4, one school in Kamyshin announced that February 5 would be an unscheduled day off for students in grades 1–4 due to adverse weather conditions.

The Yustinsky District Court of the Republic of Kalmykia sentenced 42-year-old Vitaly Krechetov for a fatal traffic accident in 2025.
