Volgograd Cancels Fireworks for Stalingrad Battle Victory

Volgograd will not have a fireworks display on the 83rd anniversary of the victory in the Battle of Stalingrad. Only a salute is promised, and it will be held at a different time than usual.
Recall that officials had earlier stated that ceremonial salutes or light installations on the memorial date should not be expected. Although the 83rd anniversary of the victory in the Battle of Stalingrad will be marked rather modestly, the Volley of Memory at Mamayev Kurgan has not been canceled.
As clarified by the press service of the Southern Military District, the annual artillery shot will thunder at 1:00 p.m. The Volgograd administration added that instead of evening fireworks, one should expect additional special effects during the day. However, there will definitely be no fireworks — they were canceled by decision of the regional operational headquarters for security reasons.
It is worth recalling that February 2 is one of nine days a year when Volgograd officially becomes Stalingrad for 24 hours. For this purpose, companies maintaining the city«s roads replaced the »beginning of populated area« and »end of populated area« road signs at all entrances to the city the day before replaced the road signs.
