Volgograd activist outraged by sudden water shutoff in city center
Several buildings in the Central District of Volgograd were suddenly left without water, provoking outrage from well-known local activist Sergei Ostrovsky. The unplanned shutdown affected not only residential buildings but also the Serebryakov Conservatory.
«My wife has a wet head — she didn»t get to finish washing,« lamented Sergei Ostrovsky. »I called the unified dispatch service, and they told me everything. It turns out they«re changing a meter at 10 Kommunisticheskaya Street. They shut off water to several buildings without warning, including the Serebryakov Conservatory and, apparently as a side effect, 6 Mira Street. They said the shutdown would last at least until 8 p.m. They turned off the water rudely, without warning, barbarically, insolently, treacherously, treating us residents like cattle!»
The Volgograd State Serebryakov Conservatory confirmed to a V1.RU correspondent that the educational institution indeed has no water.
«They said they are installing meters, which is why they shut off the line and there»s no water,« a conservatory representative said. »Students are on break right now, so only individual lessons are being held. There are almost no people in the conservatory. They couldn«t give an exact timeframe, but we hope they finish quickly.»
When asked by a V1.RU correspondent, the «Water Supply Concessions» company also did not say when the water would be restored.
«Due to the installation of building-wide meters by a third-party organization at 10 Kommunisticheskaya Street, the water supply at this address was temporarily suspended,» was all «Concessions» said, recommending that residents contact the unified dispatch center if necessary.
It is worth noting that since Saturday, residents of an apartment building in the Rodnikovaya Dolina neighborhood have been surviving without water. According to them, the problem with the water supply system arose due to frozen pipes, and in building chat groups, people are sharing life hacks: for example, they found a use for a hairdryer and a corrugated hose to apply heat precisely where the pipes might be freezing.
