Volgograd Accident Leaves Thousands Without Water and Heat

A utility accident occurred in the Krasnoarmeysky district of Volgograd, leaving thousands of residents without hot water and heating. The outages affected houses on Gagrinskaya Street, Saushinskaya Street, Stoletov Avenue, and Olimpiyskaya Street. People are complaining about the cold in their apartments and the lack of clear information about the causes of the incident.
One of the local residents said:
«Massive water outages, no hot water and no heating either. The reason is an accident on the networks, as we were told. They»re supposed to fix it by 9:00 PM, but for now people are waiting and freezing. In such cold, we«re sitting in icy houses. But that»s not even the worst part. If there«s no heat supply, it means there»s no pressure in the pipes. And since there«s no pressure in the pipes, there»s no guarantee that when they restart, they«ll hold up, and some major utility accident won»t happen in the district.«
The housing and utilities department of the Krasnoarmeysky district administration explained that «Koncessii Teplosnabzheniya» (Heat Supply Concessions) had planned scheduled works. They stated:
«Managing companies were supposed to warn people that there would be heating outages; »Koncessii Teplosnabzheniya« are conducting scheduled works. Heat should be restored by evening. Perhaps some accident did occur there, but that needs to be found out from »Koncessii«.»
Representatives of «Koncessii Teplosnabzheniya» confirmed an accident on the heating networks. The company«s press service reported:
»Currently, specialists from «Koncessii Teplosnabzheniya» are conducting repair work on a section of the heating network on Olimpiyskaya Street. Due to this, the supply of heating and hot water to a number of houses on Stoletov Avenue and Gagrinskaya Street has been temporarily suspended. Work will be completed by the end of the day.«
This is not the only utility problem in the district. Earlier, residents of three apartment buildings in Volgograd faced a spill of boiling water from pipes. At Stoletov Avenue, 2, boiling water has been flowing since half past one in the morning, and in the house on Saushinskaya, 12, flooding has been ongoing since yesterday evening. Residents of one of the houses even sent a video appeal to the Prosecutor General«s Office and Governor Andrey Bocharov with a request to help with the emergency situation.
