Tyumen residents have repeatedly debated child benefits; opinions differ on targeting low-income families.

One of the most pressing topics is social benefits. Tyumen residents express strong opinions about the size of pensions and child benefits. Last time we published the first batch of sharp comments from residents. Now we present the second set of opinions on child benefits.
Several comments suggested eliminating child benefits altogether. Some residents believe these payments are not support for families but a way to avoid working.
«Get rid of all these benefits. People have gotten used to relying on the state at someone else»s expense,« said one user, winning support from other commenters.
«You gave birth, so provide for your child yourself. Why should anyone owe you or your child anything?!» a resident wrote briefly and succinctly.
Despite such harsh opinions, there are also completely opposite views. Several people wrote that benefits are very much needed, or more precisely, monthly payments to young mothers with small children.
«It would be better to pay good benefits to all women with children up to 3 years old,» explained our reader.
This comment sparked some discussion. People began to write that maternity benefits are usually insufficient to support mother and child. The problem is especially acute in single-parent families where only the mother raises the child.
«I believe benefits should be paid to all mothers (or fathers if they are raising) of children under 3, in the amount of 100% of their salary before going on maternity leave. Only that way! And if they didn»t work — well, they should have thought before conceiving,« a resident mused on the topic.
A father of many children also wrote sincerely. He explained that his family has three children and the benefits they do not receive would noticeably help them.
«My wife and I both work officially, we have not received and do not receive any benefits for three children. Our combined salary exceeds all minimums, of course, and we would not turn down such help for children. To earn a decent salary, I have to live in the tundra for 30 days,» he reported.
There was also a comment that the child benefit amount of 19,000 rubles (about $211 at current rates) is not high and some find it insufficient for supporting a child because expenses are much higher.
«How can you say 19,000 is not needed and is too little as benefits? You must be living well,» a resident responded in surprise.
«The state gives it not so you can raise your child on that money, but just as help, no more,» explained another participant.
«We are a working family with two children. Some people here write that benefits go to dysfunctional families, but that»s not true at all. We get benefits for both children, but not 100%, less. It is significant help. We spend that money on clubs and tutors. Sometimes we give some to our older child. I support these benefits, but some individual families should be monitored and checked,« said a woman who receives state payments.
In response, another Tyumen woman spoke up, who does not receive benefits because she earns well.
«I received peanuts for up to 1.5 years when I was younger, and after that — I went to work, white salary, and we just barely don»t qualify for benefits for ages 7 to 15. That«s unfair. With benefits, I could take my child to extra classes, save up, and send them to a good summer camp, for example, add to the savings for a trip to the sea with the child,» she added.
«My son receives a child benefit and a survivor»s pension. We get 30,000 rubles (about $333). Right now, due to health issues, I cannot work. I injured my back at my previous job and now any strain is forbidden by my doctor. We don«t have enough money, considering I spend it on food and clothes for my son,» a Tyumen woman summarized.
Since 2026, specialists at the regional branch of the Social Fund of Russia (SFR) have automatically recalculated the amount of child benefits for Tyumen residents. The amounts of the unified benefit for families with children and pregnant women, including the monthly payment from maternity capital, have changed. We went into more detail about child payments, which have already increased.
