An open competition has started in Tyumen to create the best public art concept for three houses on Dzerzhinsky Street. The organizer is the Center for Strategic Development «Siberia», which is accepting applications and creative works until February 16 of this year.

The project aims to create art installations that will serve as a new landmark for Tyumen.

The competition is dedicated to local identity and the history of the place. Participants are encouraged to draw inspiration from traditional Tyumen crafts: Karmatskaya painting, three-dimensional house carving, and the famous Tyumen carpet. It was on Dzerzhinsky Street that a major craft cluster historically formed, the spirit of which the organizers want to preserve and creatively reinterpret.

‘Dzerzhinsky Street is a place with a strong craft soul. Even the local New Year tree, which was ranked among the top three in the country by the project «Cities Change for Us,» was created by our masters who hand-painted the ornaments in a unique Tyumen manner. We want the public art to become an equally organic and memorable element of the urban environment,’ the organizers note.

In a modern city, art moves beyond museum walls, becoming part of everyday life—from main squares to residential areas. Vivid examples are «Young Yuri Gagarin» in Yekaterinburg, «The Three Bogatyrs» in Nizhny Novgorod, or the already existing «Siberian Carpet» on Lenin Street in Tyumen. The goal of the new project is to create works that will be firmly imprinted in memory and become a new calling card of the city, its important cultural text.

‘Let«s create the best public art that will tell about the city we live in, about the street that is becoming an open-air museum, about us, the people of Tyumen!’ the organizers invite participation.
