Grammy host Trevor Noah began dishing out barbs from the first minutes of the show on Sunday. Among the first to be targeted were Nicki Minaj and Donald Trump.
Nicki Minaj responded on social media with posts featuring Jay-Z, hinting at unsubstantiated claims about the comedian.
«Nicki Minaj is not here,» Noah declared, then paused as the audience erupted in applause. According to media reports, the audience was indeed delighted by her absence: in the shot, Chrissy Teigen was seen in the background giving a thumbs-up and silently saying «Bye.»
Trevor continued joking: «She»s still at the White House with Donald Trump, discussing very important matters...« Then the comedian imagined how their dialogue might sound, portraying Trump as saying: »Actually, Nicki, I have the most outstanding ass.«
Later, Nicki Minaj responded to this joke on social media. In her post, she shared photos of Jay-Z and made a strange, unsubstantiated claim, hinting that the comedian is allegedly hiding his relationship with a man, which, she said, «everyone in the industry knows.»
As media reports, the conflict between Nicki Minaj and Jay-Z (as well as his label Roc Nation) has been going on for about a year due to financial disagreements.
For Trevor Noah, this is already his sixth consecutive Grammy ceremony as host — he has held this position since 2021. Earlier, the show«s executive producer Ben Winston stated that this time Noah is hosting the Grammys for the last time, and he clearly intends to go out with a bang.
