Training Brig 'Phoenix' Laid Down in St. Petersburg

At the «Yacht Club St. Petersburg» shipyard, a ceremony was held for the laying down of the sailing brig «Phoenix», equipped with 20 artillery pieces.
The vessel is an exact replica of a ship that was part of the Baltic Fleet during the Russian Empire.
The event took place in the settlement of Gorskaya, where a traditional laying keel plaque was installed at the shipyard.
The new «Phoenix» will serve as a training sailing ship for cadet preparation.
After completion of all construction work, the brig is planned to be permanently moored in close proximity to the legendary cruiser «Aurora».
The recreation of the historical brig is being carried out as part of the «Gazprom» project, which aims to build seven replicas of famous ships. Besides «Phoenix», the project includes:
- ships of the line «Three Hierarchs», «Azov», and «Twelve Apostles»;
- frigate «Pallas»;
- screw clipper «Strelok»;
- sloop «Vostok».
The original brig «Phoenix» was laid down in 1809 at the Kronstadt shipyard dock. The ship«s launch took place in 1811.
