Torpedo hockey club will start the 2026/2027 season at the new ice arena. This was announced by Nizhny Novgorod Region Governor Gleb Nikitin on Match TV.
According to the governor, the ice palace at Strelka will «definitely» open this year. Construction work is almost complete.
«More likely, it will depend on the club and its readiness to move at some point. We need to have all the loose ends tied up, excuse the expression, because basically all construction work is complete, that is 99.9%. We will definitely start the new season at the new arena,» Nikitin told Match TV.
Currently, Torpedo plays at the Nagorny Sports Complex on Gagarin Avenue, where, as the governor noted, «it is impossibly cramped.» Also, Gleb Nikitin was reminded of his earlier statement about a possible match between HC Torpedo and the Detroit Red Wings.
«My proposal is not limited only to Detroit. If a decision is made about reciprocal matches between NHL and KHL clubs, then of course we hope that with the construction of the new arena, we will be remembered. We want and are ready to host [these matches],» the governor added.
