Tongva Tribe Reacts to Billie Eilish’s Remarks

A Tongva tribe representative responded to Billie Eilish’s Grammy speech, where she said «no one is illegal on stolen land» and condemned ICE, noting her home is on their ancestral territory but she never contacted them.

During the Grammy Awards, Billie Eilish, while accepting an award, stated that «no one is illegal on stolen land» and strongly condemned the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Afterward, a conservative journalist pointed out that the singer’s home is located on land historically belonging to the Tongva tribe — the indigenous people of Los Angeles and its surroundings. According to media reports, a representative of the Tongva tribe confirmed that Billie Eilish’s house is on their ancestral territory. He also noted that the singer did not contact the tribe either before or after her performance.

At the same time, the representative added that the tribe appreciates when public figures draw attention to the true history of the country. They even reached out to Billie Eilish to express gratitude for her words. Furthermore, the tribe hopes that in future discussions they will be explicitly mentioned so that the public understands that the Los Angeles basin remains Gabrieleño Tongva territory.
