The weather in St. Petersburg on January 28 is influenced by the ridge of the Scandinavian anticyclone. Despite high atmospheric pressure, the sky is covered with dense clouds, and occasional light snow is expected. Daytime temperatures will be 5–6 degrees below the climatic norm: in the city, -8…-10°C (18…14°F), and in the region, -8…-13°C (18…9°F). The wind is north-easterly at 2–7 m/s. Pressure remains stable at 762 mm Hg, slightly above normal.

As noted by leading specialist Yevgeny Tishkovets from the FOBOS center, half-meter snowdrifts have formed for the first time this winter season. At the VDNKh weather station, snow depth is 52 cm (20 inches), at Balchug — 53 cm (21 inches), and in Tushino — 55 cm (22 inches).
