Tap Water in Krasnoslobodsk Smells of Bleach

Residents of Krasnoslobodsk, a city neighboring Volgograd, have been complaining since this morning about a strong chemical taste and smell of bleach in the tap water. Reports indicate that water with these characteristics has spread through all pipes, reaching even upscale cottage communities.

One local longtime resident admitted that he didn«t immediately notice the problem because he usually uses bottled water. »It«s always like that here. Locals often buy water from vending machines with extra purification or in bottles. Last year, it flowed green; this year, it»s white. Now, there«s a smell of bleach in the bathroom, as if bleach is pouring from the tap,» he said.

At the Krasnoslobodsk water utility, the specific smell and taste were explained by a slightly excessive addition of chlorine, but they reassured the population, stating that there is no health risk. «Because a lot of pipes froze, plus there was a power outage. So we added a bit more to »flush« the water. It will normalize soon. At the water utility, at least, it»s already clean, so it will reach you soon,« explained the organization.

According to experts, the increased dose of bleach was necessary to clean the system after freezes and power supply disruptions. They expect that water quality will soon return to normal.
