Tambov Farmers Begin Winter Wheat and Barley Harvest

The 2026 harvest campaign has launched in Tambov Oblast. Farmers in the Zherdevsky, Znamensky, Inzhavinsky, Muchkapsky, Petrovsky, Tokarevsky, and Uvarovsky municipal districts were the first to begin harvesting winter wheat.

As of July 20, grain and leguminous crops (excluding corn) have been threshed on an area of approximately 5,800 hectares. The bulk of the work involves winter wheat, which has been cut and threshed on 5,700 hectares. In Muchkapsky District, winter rye harvesting has also begun.

A total of 3,058 grain combines will be used in the campaign. Deputy Governor and Minister of Agriculture Alena Sytova noted that the progress of the harvest is under constant monitoring. “Our task is to ensure timely and high-quality harvesting of the entire crop, as well as to prepare the soil for winter sowing,” she emphasized.

The total sown area for this year’s harvest exceeds 1.8 million hectares. Grain and leguminous crops (winter, spring, including corn for grain) occupy 1.017 million hectares. The region’s governor, Evgeny Pervyshov, stated on social media: “Despite the late sowing due to bad weather, we will make every effort to ensure timely and high-quality harvesting of the entire crop and meet the target indicators.”

Earlier, Evgeny Pervyshov, reporting on the government’s work in 2025 at an expanded meeting of the Regional Duma, called the agro-industrial complex the engine of the region’s economy. In 2025, a record grain harvest of 5.5 million tonnes was gathered.
