Survey reveals Rostov-on-Don students' monthly spending

Ahead of Russian Students« Day, celebrated on January 25, analysts from the Avito service studied the financial habits of university students in Rostov-on-Don. The average monthly spending reaches 35,000 rubles (approximately $368 at current rates). The main part of the budget goes to basic needs:
- food — 43% of respondents;
- transport, books, and stationery — 32%;
- housing payments — 30%;
- technology and software for studies — 16%;
- cafes and ready-made food — 13%;
- clothing and shoes — 11%.
«For all this, almost every second surveyed student (46%) spends up to 30,000 rubles (approximately $316) per month. Another 40% spend from 30,000 to 60,000 rubles (approximately $316 to $632). 14% spend from 60,000 to 100,000 rubles (approximately $632 to $1,100). On average in Rostov-on-Don, this is 35,000 rubles per month,» the study says.
To fit the budget, students save on daily expenses. 32% give up takeaway coffee and drinks, 27% reduce spending on public transport and taxis. 22% of respondents spend less on paid entertainment and prefer to eat at home rather than in cafes. Another 21% exercise at home or with benefits, avoiding paid gyms.
«Meanwhile, 5% of students claim that they do not save at all and try not to deny themselves anything. In groups with more modest expenses — from 8,000 to 15,000 rubles (approximately $84 to $158) and from 15,000 to 30,000 rubles (approximately $158 to $316) per month — such respondents are significantly fewer: 3% and 4% respectively,» analysts conclude.
To optimize expenses, many use special opportunities. 43% save with discounts and cashback in apps, 37% use student discounts. 32% compare prices before buying, 31% purchase goods on sales, and every fourth (25%) buys things second-hand.
