Surgut Authorities Unveil Plans for New Recreation Areas

In recent years, Surgut has seen an increasing number of beautiful recreation spots.
Every year, Surgut sees more and new spaces for recreation and walks. The year 2026 will be no exception. The city will develop a new waterfront, a dry fountain, and complete work on paths in the beloved «Za Saymoy» Park. We tell you more.

This is how the first dry fountain in Surgut will look.
New Waterfront for Walks
This year in Surgut, a waterfront along the Sayma River from the Palace of Celebrations to Universitetskaya Street on the SOKB (Surgut Regional Clinical Hospital) side will be developed. Paving slabs will be laid, small architectural forms, lighting, and video surveillance will be installed. At the same time, work is underway to prepare for the cleaning of this river branch. First of all, according to specialists, it is necessary to eliminate the existing discharges that pollute the Sayma through water conduits.
«In 2027–2028, design work for the cleaning of the Sayma will begin. One of the conditions is to eliminate the existing discharges. This work is currently underway,» said Andrey Armenchu, director of the Capital Construction Department of Surgut. «Bank protection works as part of the waterfront development are also planned.»
The waterfront will be built this summer. Currently, city authorities are preparing tender documentation. They plan to conclude municipal contracts within the next month. The construction will be divided into two sections.
«We will hold a meeting with the winners of the tender procedures and immediately discuss ordering the necessary materials so that by summer we have everything ready. Perhaps we will even be able to start something during the winter period,» the official said.
Also in 2026, the authorities plan to complete the issue of the road and trail network in the «Za Saymoy» Park. Last year, paths were laid along the perimeter of the popular recreation area among citizens, and this year, the internal paths will be developed.
«We do not plan to return to the paths. As for any additional platforms, small architectural forms, or anything else, we have a wonderful participatory budgeting program that has been working for several years,» the official explained. «Active citizens come forward with proposals, most often they are accepted and implemented. There are several such objects in the »Za Saymoy« Park.»
First Dry Fountain and Illuminated Stele
This year, several objects will appear in the city that promise to become decorations and landmarks of Surgut. The first is a dry fountain. It will be located in the «Kedrovy Log» (Cedar Gully) Park. Currently, the design is in the final stage, and the sketch projects have been approved.
Also, city authorities have completed work on the project for the improvement of the «Gresovskiy pyatachok» (a historic gathering spot for power plant workers) on Energitikov Street.
«A very interesting project has been created. Currently, some clarifications are being made regarding financing, after which we will determine the stages of implementation of this object. This year we plan to start construction,» said Andrey Armenchu.
On the site of the famous «Gresovskiy pyatachok», from where power plant workers used to leave for work by bus, a stele called «Prism of Energy» will be installed. The structure will have lighting. The adjacent territory is planned to be fully developed. Toilets, rain shelters, benches, and various forms of landscaping are provided there.
Also in 2026, the Surgut authorities plan to start developing the concept of a new «Memory Square», which will be located in the Cherny Mys (Black Cape) area. The master plan also designates a recreation area on Zayachiy (Hare) Island. Currently, land reclamation is already underway there. There is an investor who is ready to take on the project.
«The implementation of a public space with all necessary infrastructure is planned. It will be a park or square with small architectural forms, sports grounds, and small sports facilities, for example, water sports,» said Ivan Sorich, director of the architecture and urban planning department of the administration. «In any case, we will keep a close eye on this issue because the territory is indeed very large and promising.»
Earlier we reported that Surgut will get rid of a ghost town, and Yunost (Youth) will be built up with low-rise buildings. City authorities told about plans for the development of housing construction.
