Student Infection Forces St. Petersburg School Closure

Six people have been hospitalized at School No. 39 in St. Petersburg, forcing the administration to switch students to remote learning and close the building for disinfection.

On 4 February, it became known that School No. 39 in St. Petersburg suspended in-person classes on 5 and 6 February 2026 due to an outbreak of an infectious disease. Six people, including five students and one teacher, were hospitalized.
The administration of the Nevsky District reported that the educational institution is closed for disinfection and conducting a sanitary-epidemiological investigation.
The official school group on VKontakte (VK) stated: «On 5 and 6 February, due to disinfection of the building, students in grades 5–11 will study remotely. Students in grades 1–4 will work at home according to individual plans.»
Also canceled are the open day scheduled for 7 February and the provision of paid educational services.
Class teachers informed the parents of students in grades 5–11 about the transition to remote learning.
According to the Main Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia (SK) for St. Petersburg, a pre-investigation check is being conducted into the incident.
