Street tents for heating set up in Chelyabinsk during abnormal frosts

Two warm tents have been set up in Chelyabinsk during abnormal frosts. In the coming days, air temperatures in the city may drop to -35 °C (-31 °F), and so-called mobile heating points are ready to shelter all those in need. This was announced on Wednesday, January 21, by Mayor Alexey Loshkin on his Telegram channel.

«Everyone who needs help and warmth can come here,» emphasized the city head. «Specialists from the Chelyabinsk City Rescue Service will be on duty around the clock at the sites.»
One tent was installed near the «Impulse» House of Culture at the Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Plant (50-letiya VLKSM St., 16), the second — near the administration of the Leninsky District (Gagarin St., 22).
«All city services have been put on a special regime: set up for round-the-clock duty to respond to emergencies when needed,» assured Alexey Loshkin. «Report all utility accidents, especially those related to heating and water supply, immediately to the district dispatch service phones or to the Unified Emergency Dispatch Service (UEDS) number — 112. We will take measures as quickly as possible.»
Recall that a sharp cold snap will begin in the region tonight. Forecasters predict temperatures as low as -40 °C (-40 °F) across the area.
Last week, the Southern Urals already experienced abnormal frosts. In some places, thermometers recorded temperatures as low as -45 °C (-49 °F). Over three days, classes in schools were canceled. Taxi drivers demanded extra pay for working in the cold.
