Stavropol weekend guide: The Master and Margarita, snail tasting, Stalingrad lecture

The first month of 2026 is coming to an end, but guests and residents of the regional capital can spend it actively and in good spirits. The city has prepared various events, lectures, meetings, and performances, and the editorial office of 26.RU has compiled a weekend guide.

«The History of One House» (16+)
The Stavropol Regional House of Folk Art is launching a historical project. Guests will hear a story with a demonstration of rare photographs about the 19th-century mansion of the famous merchant Karp Khristoforovich Zarifyants.

Exhibition-festival NUR NOW x T2 (6+)
This is an annual international media art festival held since 2021. It has united over 300 media artists, musicians, and performers from 31 countries. Artists will present works in seven cities, including Stavropol. Through transformed national motifs, living portraits, and native landscapes at the intersection of digital and natural, viewers will see Russia as a vast palette of cultures.

Lecture «The Hidden Value of Boredom and Idleness» (12+)
The ability to stop, reflect, and analyze is gradually becoming a rare skill. We increasingly see how the necessary balance between constant activity and doing nothing is disrupted. Meanwhile, the brain vitally needs periods of actual inactivity and relaxation — not just for rest, but for recovery, creativity, and real efficiency.
At the meeting, participants will talk about the principles of brain function, understand why we more often choose busyness over relaxation, and discuss how suppressing emotions reduces efficiency.

Lecture «The Battle of Stalingrad. The Last Point» (12+)
The lecture is dedicated to the memory of the soldiers and commanders of the 343rd Ordzhonikidze Rifle Division, formed in 1941 in Stavropol and participating in offensive battles on the territory of the Stalingrad Tractor Plant in early 1943.

Book presentation «Heroes of Socialist Labor» (12+)
The event is timed to the memorial date of the first awarding of Stavropol residents with the honorary badge «Hero of Socialist Labor.» On January 30, 1948, a decree was issued, awarding five regional workers with the high honor for their labor merits in wheat and corn harvests. The book contains over three hundred names.

Nightwish Tribute Show (16+)
A show where songs by famous bands or artists are performed by other musicians. For Stavropol residents, a Russian tribute group performing songs by the Finnish band Nightwish, a world leader in the symphonic metal style, will perform. The focus will be on the work from the period of their first vocalist Tarja Turunen.

Lecture «Chasing Fashion: Famous Fashionistas of Their Time in Paintings by Great Masters» (12+)
The meeting is dedicated to fashion and artists. Now the color of the year is recommended by the color institute, but how did people learn about fashion trends before? What influence did foreign policy have on the current dress style, and was it possible not to follow trends to marry successfully? Lecturers will answer these questions.

Installation «Portrait of Fear» (6+)
The central element of this installation is a miniature model of a city. Inside, small human figures are placed, each dressed in a small overcoat made of fabric or other material symbolizing the era and social position. These characters are not just static objects but expressive symbols of individuality and human destinies.

Concert Heronwater (16+)
Heronwater is the pseudonym of a Russian beatmaker, rap artist, and producer. His creative style is a mix of jersey club, electronic music, house, and hip-hop. He will come to Stavropol with the «Forever Young» tour.

Concert «On Native Expanses» (16+)
The program will feature works by Soviet and Russian authors, as well as folk and Cossack songs. Participants include the lyrical song ensemble «Russkie Uzory,» «Iskorka,» «Lada» named after L. A. Yakobi, members of the vocal studio «Liga,» «Pervaya» dance studio, and soloists of the House of Culture.

Excursion «Winter Stavropol» (18+)
The Tourist Information Center will conduct the «Winter Stavropol» excursion through the evening city. There will also be a professional photo session, wine tasting, Stavropol snails, and snacks.

Interactive Lecture «History of Cinematography» (12+)
At the Stavropol Museum-Reserve, as part of a cultural and educational project, an interactive lecture «History of Cinematography» will be held. Visitors will learn about the appearance of cinema long before the first film «Arrival of a Train at La Ciotat Station» in 1895.
Using museum objects as examples, participants will see the development of technologies that led to the emergence of «moving images,» learn how it gained sound and transitioned to digital technologies. Visitors will be able to familiarize themselves with a domestic 8mm film projector used at home and in schools.

Master Class «Oratory» (16+)
The master class is useful for everyone who has difficulties communicating with people, who finds it hard to express their thoughts beautifully, or who wants to be an interesting interlocutor. Participants will learn about unique methods that develop speech and oratory skills, and learn to solve psychological difficulties in the communication process.

«The Master and Margarita» (12+)
For connoisseurs of classical literature, the performance «The Master and Margarita» is a must-see event. The production is the result of long months of creative process and reverent attitude towards Mikhail Bulgakov«s novel.

«Viy» (18+)
The genre of the performance is a mystical thriller about love, death, and the subtle organization of the soul. It uses modern lighting and computer technologies, which, along with the actors« play and bright decorations, create a theatrical show on stage. The soul of the main heroine, Pannochka, languishes from unrequited love. She turns to the Dark Forces for help. What is the price of salvation now?

«An Ordinary Miracle» (12+)
Back in 1954, Yevgeny Schwartz told the wonderful story «An Ordinary Miracle.» This fairy tale is well known to viewers thanks to the film adaptation, which has entered the golden fund of domestic cinema. But every director has the right to their own interpretation.
Artistic director and Honored Artist of Russia Irina Barannikova presented her version of this play«s plot. It contains all the fairy-tale attributes — magic, a princess, an enchanted youth. The viewer will have to find out if there is anything greater than love in the world.
The performance combines a romantic story to empathize with, depth of feelings and captivating intrigues, lyrical scenes, and a modern visual series.

«Hey, You, Hello!» (12+)
The action takes place in a resort town where everything is conducive to romance: summer, sun, warm sea. Masha has come on vacation to her grandmother and helps her sell flowers, fruits, and vegetables from the garden at the market. Her grandmother lets vacationers stay in the house for money. Valerka has everyone staying for free; in his family, money is not an issue. Hence, the characters have different views on material values and on life in general.

«The Years of Wandering» (12+)
The time of action described by Arbuzov in the play «The Years of Wandering» is the pre-war and war years. This is a poignant statement addressed primarily to very young people just entering life. The main characters are future doctors who have taken on huge responsibility.
The turbulent time became a test for everyone. Will love and friendship withstand the test of separation? The performance does not have the thunder of victory fanfares, military marches, or almost any battle scenes, but all participants in the production, acutely feeling the events of those years and deeply experiencing today«s time, through the pain of losses and the gaining of hope, carry faith in victory, sincere emotions, and a high degree of psychological tension.
