The winter season continues in St. Petersburg, and the total volume of removed snow has already exceeded 1.3 million cubic meters. This was stated by Maxim Lukyanchuk, first deputy general director of Vodokanal, the city«s water utility.
Sergey Petričenko, head of the city«s improvement committee, vividly illustrated the scale of the work:
“If we imagine that all this volume is piled into one mound, it would completely cover the Peter and Paul Fortress, all the way to the angel on the spire.”
Transporting the snow required about 77,000 dump truck trips. In January, a daily record was set: utility services sent 55,000 cubic meters of snow for processing in 24 hours.
Petričenko noted in his Telegram channel:
“Skeptics might say that there«s practically nothing to remove now — the heavy snowfalls ended a couple of weeks ago. They are partly right, but there is no limit to perfection.”After clearing main highways and sidewalks, work has moved to hard-to-reach areas, including areas near fences.
In addition to roads, roof cleaning is underway. During one week in January, snow was removed from more than 300 roofs of bus stop pavilions.
