The dismantling of the main New Year tree on Palace Square in St. Petersburg is ongoing. By the evening of January 28, all ornaments and garlands had been removed from the tree, and it is now almost completely free of decorations.
Preparations for the tree«s cutting and removal involve planning for its trunk and branches.
According to the publication Fontanka, the cutting of the tree will begin on the evening of Thursday, January 29. The trunk is planned to be used for making decorative items, and the branches will be sent for recycling. The removal of the tree from the square is scheduled for the night of January 29 to 30.
The tree remained on Palace Square for a week longer than usual due to public requests. The entire dismantling process is expected to take about two days.
