In the St. Petersburg Metro, a presentation was held for a pilot project of a carriage modernized for the needs of passengers with reduced mobility. Both technical specialists and direct users participated in evaluating the novelty.
Specialists from the «Moskovskoye» electric depot presented an experimental carriage model 81-717/714, equipped with special handrails and navigation elements. This was reported on January 28 by the press service of the city«s transport committee. The train with the modernized carriage made a test run from Kupchino station to Nevsky Prospekt, with participants including representatives from the Regional Public Organization for the Disabled »Svet Feniksa« (Light of the Phoenix) and wheelchair-using veterans.
Participants of the ride tested the placement of handrails, readability of navigation, safety of boarding and alighting, as well as overall comfort during movement. The received comments and suggestions will be taken into account during further refinement of the project. In case of successful testing, similar modernization may be applied to other carriages of the St. Petersburg metro.
