St. Petersburg faced serious transport problems on January 25 after the closure of several key bridges.
Traffic was stopped on the Liteyny and Troitsky bridges, which immediately led to dense traffic jams in the city center. Readers on social media write: «They closed Liteyny Bridge, we»ve been standing for about 10 minutes,« and »All bridges from the center to Petrogradka are closed.«
Yandex Maps showed that the traffic jam stretched from the area of the intersection of Sadovaya Street and Krylov Lane towards Petrogradsky Island. Nevsky Prospect, Dvortsovy Proezd, and Pirogovskaya Embankment were heavily congested.
Later, around 3:00 p.m., the list of closed crossings expanded to include the Izmailovsky and Voznesensky bridges.
The traffic restrictions are apparently related to the visit of the King of Malaysia, Sultan Ibrahim Ismail, to the city. The governor of Leningrad Oblast, Alexander Drozdenko, met the distinguished guest at Pulkovo Airport. It is noted that in August of this year, the Supreme Ruler of Malaysia already met with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
