On February 5, Alexander Kolesov, chief weather forecaster of St. Petersburg, spoke about the influence of cloud cover on weather conditions. «Again about clouds today. In the next couple of days, clouds will be the main factor in the temperature forecast. As I already reported, we expect clearing and a drop in air temperature today,» Kolesov wrote on his Telegram channel.
In the morning in St. Petersburg, under thin cloud cover, the temperature was -12 to -13 degrees Celsius (10°F to 9°F). In the south of Leningrad Region, where the sky was clear, thermometers dropped below -20 degrees: in the Gatchina area, -21 degrees Celsius (-6°F) was recorded, and in Pskov and Novgorod regions, from -22 to -26 degrees Celsius (-8°F to -15°F).
«The sky is clear everywhere, and these clearings are slowly moving north towards us. By the way, it is also getting colder in St. Petersburg, but during the day the sun will warm a little, so the maximum temperature should be around -10 degrees (14°F),» the forecaster noted.
Tonight, the city is expected to cool down to -20 degrees (-4°F), and in the region to -22 to -27 degrees (-8°F to -17°F). Tomorrow, February 6, temperatures will remain low, not rising above -10 degrees (14°F).
«So we will have to see whether tomorrow becomes the coldest day or it will still lose to February 1,» summarized Alexander Kolesov.
