Spontaneous Memorial Created at Site of Schoolgirl's Death in Volgograd

On January 22, in the Krasnoarmeysky District of Volgograd, a 14-year-old schoolgirl fell from a fifth-floor window of a building on Kanatchikov Avenue. Despite doctors« efforts, she died in the intensive care unit of Hospital No. 15.

Under the balcony of this five-story building, a spontaneous memorial quickly formed. Residents of the district bring flowers, plush toys, and children«s books here.

Official data on the causes of the incident have not yet been released. A source familiar with the situation reported that the girl was raised in a well-off family by her mother and stepfather.

The mother of the deceased, in a conversation with journalists, firmly rejected the spreading rumors about problems in her daughter«s personal relationships. »Right now, all my emotions are turned off, I«m like a robot,» she said. «The memorial stands at the place where she fell. I light a lamp there, bring chocolates.» The investigation into the circumstances of the incident, according to her, is not yet complete.

At the educational institution where the girl studied, unscheduled class hours were held. Students were told about enhanced safety measures when at height, near windows and balconies.

«Teachers couldn»t conduct lessons, everyone was in shock. Whether it was an accident or not, they themselves don«t know,» noted one of the classmates.
