In 2026, Novokuznetsk«s treasury will receive 2.7 billion rubles (approximately $30,000,000 at current rates) less than last year, according to the budget approved by deputies. Which sectors were hit hardest by the forced savings was investigated by the editorial staff of NGS42.RU on Wednesday, 4 February.

The budget of the southern capital [Novokuznetsk] was cut by 10% until the end of 2026 due to a decrease in non-repayable receipts from regional and federal authorities.
Because of this, the reduction affected key areas for the city.
The authorities reduced spending in most areas, including socially important ones: education, social services, and transport.
The biggest drop this year will be in environmental protection — the amount allocated for this sphere has decreased by 83%. In second place is housing and communal services, with savings of 34%. Social services rounds out the top three, with spending cut by 29%.

The editorial staff of NGS42.RU studied the city«s main financial document in detail to understand exactly how the funding reduction will affect residents. Among other things, the spending cuts will affect kindergartens and schools.
Earlier, we also analyzed in detail the regional budget for the next 11 months: it also decreased significantly, leading to reduced spending in all areas. The main reason is the crisis in the coal industry, on which the treasury directly depends.
