Sochi Mayor Announces Creation of 'Pocket' Parks

The improvement of the area on Lazarev Street in Sochi is being finalized thanks to social partnership. Sochi Mayor Andrey Proshunin called these areas «pocket» ones. For example, at house No. 80, they pruned the greenery, laid paving and curb stones, installed storm drains, and set up lighting poles. Modern park furniture was also installed.
— Attention to detail can radically change the appearance of an entire neighborhood. In the Lazarevsky district, we are creating a network of «pocket» parks. This is already the fifth area being improved in this format. All elements of the improvement were agreed upon with residents and TOS (Territorial Public Self-Government) activists. The implementation of the project on Lazarev Street also solved the problem of yard flooding during rains, — stated Sochi Mayor Andrey Proshunin.
The «pocket» park project on Lazarev Street also includes zones for active family leisure and the installation of a children«s play complex. The improvement work was allocated 7.7 million rubles (approximately $84,200 at current rates).
