Sochi crime rate fell by 14% last year

The city's police department presented a report on operational and service activities for the past year, showing a significant decrease in overall crime.

The Sochi Police Department summed up the results of its work for 2025. At a meeting chaired by the Deputy Head of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for Krasnodar Krai—Head of the Sochi Police Department, Police Major General Sergey Ogurtsov—a significant 14% drop in the overall crime rate was noted, confirming the resort«s status as one of Russia»s safest cities.

The number of robberies and car thefts saw the most significant decreases, by 55% and 40% respectively. There was also a recorded drop in apartment burglaries (40%), mobile phone thefts (22%), car break-ins (20%), and bank account thefts (19%). Cases of infliction of grievous bodily harm decreased by 11%, and the total number of thefts fell by 9.5%. Public safety improved: crimes in public places dropped by 7.5%, and on streets, squares, and in parks by 15%.

Particular attention was paid to combating drug-related crime in cooperation with the Federal Security Service (FSB). 1,315 crimes in this area were uncovered, of which 1,051 were related to drug trafficking. Over 65 kg of prohibited substances were seized from circulation, and three drug laboratories were eliminated. Control over the legal circulation of medicines led to the suspension of 11 pharmacies, one of which lost its license. The total value of the seized illegal drugs exceeded 2 million rubles (approximately $22,200 at current rates).

In cooperation with security agencies, a number of crimes involving the use of weapons were also prevented. Fourteen firearms and 235 rounds of ammunition were removed from illegal circulation.

In addition, in 2025, 145 individuals involved in 201 crimes committed in previous years were identified, including high-profile murder cases from the 1990s and 2000s.
