Sochi Authorities Ready to Relocate Residents from Landslide Zones

Sochi authorities have confirmed their readiness to temporarily relocate residents whose homes are in zones of ongoing landslide processes. This was discussed at an operational meeting of city head Andrey Proshunin with deputies and district leaders, dedicated to the situation on Petrozavodskaya Street in the Adler district and in the Korchaginets garden partnership in the Khosta district. According to the administration, there is no threat to human life or capital construction facilities, but ground movement continues, and monitoring is being conducted round-the-clock.
— I have instructed to conduct another door-to-door visit on Petrozavodskaya Street and explain to residents the action mechanism in case the situation worsens. One of them could be placement in temporary accommodation points, — the mayor stated.
He also noted the problem with territories not in municipal ownership: «This is not the first landslide on territory not belonging to municipal ownership. We must interact with owners and have a clear regulation.»
On Petrozavodskaya Street, about 60 cubic meters of mudflow have already been removed, fallen trees have been cut up, and the landowner has been sent a notice to stabilize the slope. In the Korchaginets garden partnership, where three undamaged houses are located on the landslide border, over 1,500 cubic meters of soil have been removed in a day. The coordination of works is carried out by the city operational headquarters.
