The night of January 27 in the Samara region will be one of the coldest this winter. According to the forecast by the Volga Hydrometeorological Center (Volga Hydromet), temperatures will drop to -22…-27°C (-8…-17°F), and in some areas, thermometers may show -32°C (-26°F). The cause is the ridge of the Siberian anticyclone.

The weather will be partly cloudy, with no precipitation, but frost is possible in some places. The wind will be southerly, at 4–9 m/s (9–20 mph). During the day on January 27, it will become slightly warmer: -14…-19°C (7…-2°F), however, the wind will increase to 8–13 m/s (18–29 mph).

«Windless, frosty weather is expected with minimum air temperatures in some areas below the 30-degree mark,» explained Irina Vytagova, a specialist at the Hydrometeorological Center.

How will the frost affect studies?

Recall that in Samara schools, there is a system for canceling in-person classes:

  • At -25°C (-13°F), grades 1–4 switch to distance learning;

  • At -27°C (-17°F), grades 1–8;

  • At -30°C (-22°F), all grades, from 1 to 11.

Kindergartens operate as usual.

Note that if parents do bring their child to school, they must be accepted, provided with classes and hot meals.

Authorities recommend that residents exercise caution, dress warmly, and, if possible, limit prolonged stay outdoors, especially during nighttime and morning hours.
