Severe frosts to hit Nizhny Novgorod

In the Nizhny Novgorod region, a sharp temperature drop to -30…-33°C (-22…-27°F) is forecast for the end of the week during nighttime hours.
According to Olga Mokeyeva, head of the meteorological forecasts department at FGBU «Verkhne-Volzhskoye UGMS» (the Upper Volga Hydrometeorological Service), the cold snap will begin as early as Thursday.
After warm and comfortable weather, starting from Thursday, intense invasions of cold Arctic air associated with an anticyclone are forecast in the Nizhny Novgorod region. The temperature background will drop 9–14 degrees below the climatic norm.
Mokeyeva noted.
According to forecasters, the coldest will be the nights from Friday to Sunday, when the thermometer will show -23…-28°C (-9…-18°F), and in some areas up to -30°C (-22°F). Daytime temperatures will settle within -17…-22°C (1…-8°F).
The abnormal cold is expected to start retreating only on Tuesday, January 27. In connection with the upcoming frosts, it is worth reminding that on such days, special rules are in effect for schoolchildren, allowing them not to attend educational institutions.
