The cold snap will begin on Thursday, said Olga Mokeeva, head of the meteorological forecast department of the Federal State Budgetary Institution «Upper Volga Hydrometeorological Service» (FSBI «Upper Volga UHMS»).
«After warm, comfortable weather, intense invasions of cold Arctic air associated with an anticyclone are forecast for the territory of the Nizhny Novgorod region starting Thursday. The temperature background will drop 9-14 degrees below the climatic norm,» the meteorologist noted.
According to her, from Friday to Sunday, nighttime temperatures will drop to -23…-28°C (-9…-18°F), and in some settlements, 30-degree frosts (-22°F) will hit. During the day, thermometers will show -17…-22°C (1…-8°F). According to weather forecasters, the cold will retreat only by next Tuesday, January 27.
