Alexander Kolesov explained that the arrow pointing to the Karelian Isthmus appeared on the image accidentally.

Alexander Kolesov posted photos on his Telegram channel on February 2, showing the condition of Lake Ladoga and the Gulf of Finland.

«This is especially relevant for Lake Ladoga, which sometimes brings us clouds with snow, and sometimes supplies warmer air to St. Petersburg when the rest of the territory has frosty weather,» the meteorologist noted.

Clear shots were obtained thanks to the frosty and cloudless weather that set in on Sunday, February 1, over a vast area.

«Everything can be seen: the small part of the lake that remained unfrozen in the northwest of the water area, the steaming in the form of clouds from this open part, and the ice movements in the form of cracks under the influence of the east wind,» the forecaster explained.

A similar picture was observed on the Gulf of Finland: the ice cover had breaks, and weak steaming also rose from the water surface.

The day before, on January 31, a temperature record was recorded in St. Petersburg. The average daily indicator was -16.7 °C (about 2°F), which became the lowest value this winter. It was last colder in the city on January 20, 2024, when the temperature dropped to -16.9 °C (about 1.6°F).

By Wednesday, February 2, it became slightly warmer in the Northern Capital.
