Saratov Region Imposes 24-Hour Alcohol Ban for Student Day

Tomorrow, Sunday, January 25, Saratov Region will ban the sale of alcoholic products in stores for 24 hours. The restriction is being introduced in connection with the celebration of Russian Students« Day — Tatyana»s Day.
The ban applies to all types of alcoholic beverages, including beer and alcohol-containing products. The restrictions will be in effect throughout the day, with alcohol available only in catering establishments.
Serious fines are provided for violating the ban. Individual entrepreneurs face fines of up to 40,000 rubles (approximately $440 at current rates), and legal entities — up to 300,000 rubles (approximately $3,300 at current rates).
Tatyana«s Day is one of six »dry« dates in Saratov Region when it is impossible to buy alcohol to take away from stores. In addition to January 25, alcohol cannot be sold on June 1 (Children»s Day), on the day of the last bell, on the last Saturday of June (Youth Day), September 1 (Knowledge Day), and September 11 (All-Russian Sobriety Day).
