Komsomolskaya Square in Samara could undergo a significant transformation. This was announced by Vyacheslav Dmitriev, head of the Kuibyshev Railway (KbZhD), during a meeting with journalists.

«We need to change the appearance of the station square—together with the city administration, we are already working on a renovation project to alter the architectural look of Komsomolskaya Square and the adjacent area. The goal is to transform it from a large parking lot into a comfortable, aesthetic space that will become the «calling card» of our space capital,» said Vyacheslav Dmitriev.

As can be noted, there is no direct indication in the KbZhD head«s comment that all cars will be removed from the square. Also, there is no exact transformation project for the location yet.

The conversation about the square«s new look came up during discussions on the prospects of building a metro station near the railway station.

«We consider the construction of a metro station here a strategic necessity. This will have a positive impact on everything: it will reduce the load on roads, increase the comfort and mobility of the population, and revenue from metro usage can be directed towards further development and network expansion. When infrastructure works as a single mechanism, people benefit first and foremost. In case of a positive decision to build the «Vokzalnaya» metro station, we are ready to fully engage in this work at the design stage to create convenient approaches and synchronize our plans,» noted Vyacheslav Dmitriev.

Currently, the «Teatralnaya» metro station is under construction in Samara. Its commissioning deadlines have been postponed several times. At the end of 2023, the construction was completely frozen. However, later a breakthrough was made at the site. In May 2025, the laying of the second tunnel began. It was completed on November 27.

Regional Governor Vyacheslav Fedorishchev previously said that Samara needs five more metro stations. To develop a new concept for station construction, specialists from a relevant Moscow institute were engaged.
