During the night of 2–3 February, almost a third of the monthly precipitation fell in Samara. City service specialists have been working in enhanced mode for five days, cleaning streets, roads and public spaces. City head Ivan Noskov ordered an increase in the number of special machines for snow removal and ice control.
«At night, as soon as it became clear that the snow action was starting, we immediately deployed 100 combined road machines onto the roads. We shifted the schedule of all employees involved in snow removal by an hour earlier and promptly increased the amount of equipment on the roads to 350 units, and the number of workers to 600. There was no transport collapse — all public transport is on the line. There is a general decrease in the speed of motor vehicles, which is quite understandable due to weather conditions. In the next 24 hours, we will work at full capacity,» noted the head of Samara Ivan Noskov.
Over five days, more than 20,000 tons of snow were removed from Samara. Roads and sidewalks were treated with over 470 tons of reagents. To ensure good traction for car wheels and shoe soles with the road surface, sand was additionally used.
«We pay special attention to the safety of outdoor staircases and road sections with descents and ascents, as well as stops. The number of trips for clearing and removing snow masses in the private sector within the city has been increased,» said Deputy Head of Samara Evgeny Vladimirsy. «We will remove the bulk of the snow at night. Thank you to all motorists who carefully follow road signs and do not park in unauthorized places, do not leave cars where they will interfere with the work of special equipment.»
According to forecasts from the Privolzhskoe UGMS (Volga Region Hydrometeorological Service), from 4 to 6 February, temperatures in some areas of Samara Region will drop to -34 °C (-29 °F). Due to heavy snowfall, visibility on roads will worsen, so drivers and pedestrians are advised to exercise caution, especially at intersections.
In Samara, a snow removal hotline operates on weekdays from 08:30 to 17:30, phone: +7 939 719-96-37. You can leave a request around the clock via this number in the MAX messenger.
