A light aircraft Diamond DA40, belonging to the Saint Petersburg State University of Civil Aviation (SPbSUGA), crashed on the afternoon of February 2 near Orsk in Orenburg region.
According to preliminary information, the aircraft began a sharp descent immediately after gaining altitude and sustained serious damage.
In the crash, a 35-year-old pilot instructor and two cadets aged 20 and 21 died.
Following the incident, the Transport Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case under the article on violation of safety rules for the movement and operation of aircraft.
The main versions are considered to be a piloting error or a technical malfunction of the aircraft.
On February 2, the university«s official Telegram channel published a message with condolences to the relatives and loved ones of the victims.
«Today, we lost our friends, members of our large and close-knit aviation family. They all dreamed of the sky, each day reaching new heights, learning to soar above birds. Young, talented enthusiasts, full of love for the sky. Today, they have embarked on an eternal flight,» the message states.
SPbSUGA called the incident an irreplaceable loss both for the university and for the entire aviation community.
