Russian Fertilizer Producer Uralchem Aids Bangladesh Farmers

This shipment of potash fertilizer is intended to boost crop yields and address food shortages in the region.
The Uralchem Group delivered 30,000 tons of potassium chloride as a charitable donation to the Republic of Bangladesh at an official ceremony held on January 19 in the country«s capital, Dhaka.
The event was attended by Mohammad Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, advisor to the interim government of Bangladesh overseeing the Ministry of Agriculture, Russian Ambassador to Bangladesh Alexander Khazin, and representatives of the Uralchem Group.
The delivery of the fertilizer, which was previously stored in Latvia, was facilitated with the assistance of the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), which chartered a ship to transport the batch. Similar to previous humanitarian shipments, the Uralchem Group covered the transportation and other costs.
This batch is the seventh charitable delivery by the Uralchem Group to developing countries. Since the end of 2022, the Group has donated approximately 220,000 tons of mineral fertilizers to states facing acute food shortages. Almost 200,000 tons of this volume were delivered on ships chartered by the WFP from ports and warehouses in the European Union — to Malawi, Kenya, Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka, and now Bangladesh.
The charitable deliveries by the Uralchem Group are aimed at mitigating the effects of an unprecedented global food crisis and preventing crop losses in countries at risk of famine. This initiative also contributes to the achievement of UN Sustainable Development Goal No. 2 — «Zero Hunger, achieving food security and improved nutrition, and promoting sustainable agriculture».
— Mineral fertilizers are the foundation of food security, as they ensure stable and high crop yields. Being one of the world«s leading producers and suppliers of mineral fertilizers and a company with an ambitious mission to help eradicate hunger, we recognize our special role in supporting food security in the most vulnerable regions of the planet. We are glad that the humanitarian batch of our potash fertilizers has arrived in Bangladesh and will now help local farmers harvest a bountiful crop, — said Dmitry Konyaev, General Director of JSC »OCC Uralchem«.
