From the middle of February 2, Rostov region began to be covered with snow, as forecasters had promised. Within hours, streets and roads were covered, and cities and highways were predictably stuck in traffic jams. Due to the bad weather, utility services, heating enterprises, water and sewerage, power grid and road transport complexes, fire and rescue units have been put on enhanced operation mode. A storm warning has been declared throughout the region. Rescuers asked drivers not to take to the roads.

Rostov authorities reported on the condition of TPP-2 (Thermal Power Plant 2), an accident at which left half the city without heat last December. As it turned out, the station has still not been able to operate at full capacity.

In an apartment in Krasny Sulin (Rostov region), the bodies of a 56-year-old couple were found with signs of carbon monoxide poisoning. According to media reports, the man was a doctor at the central district hospital in Krasny Sulin. A criminal case has been initiated.

Rostov region may test the use of unmanned vehicles in road construction and repair. This was stated by Deputy Governor and Minister of Transport of the region Alena Belikova. The experiment is planned to be launched at the Volgodonsk branch of «RosDorNII» (Russian Road Research Institute).

The government of Rostov region published the results of an annual survey of residents of the region«s cities and districts on how satisfied they are with the work of their settlement heads. As it turned out, under former mayor Logvinenko, Rostov residents were more satisfied with the authorities than under the current mayor, Skryabin.

The US Department of Justice released more than three million pages of documents related to the case of American financier Jeffrey Epstein at the end of January. As it turned out, these files contain repeated mentions of Russian cities, including Rostov.

In the Sea of Azov, fishing for Russian sturgeon may be allowed in the coming years. This is stated by scientists from the Rostov-based AzNIIRKh (Azov Sea Research Institute of Fisheries). According to their estimates, the stocks of this valuable species are recovering.
