Rostelecom: Internet May Be Down in Murmansk Homes Without Power

Rostelecom is taking necessary measures to maintain uninterrupted internet operation in the Murmansk region. The company has promptly deployed backup power infrastructure not only for its own communication nodes but also for other operators.

— Currently, internet is available in all buildings with power supply. Lack of connection is possible only in houses that are completely without electricity, — the company reported.

If after power restoration there is no internet, the following steps should be taken:

• Disconnect the device from power for 2–3 minutes, then turn it back on. Wait about 5 minutes for full recovery. In most cases, this solves the problem;

• If rebooting doesn«t help — contact the Rostelecom support service at the 24/7 toll-free number 8 800 100-08-00. The operator will check the network status and reboot the equipment if necessary.

Recall that a state of emergency has been introduced in the Murmansk region. The Murmansk region prosecutor«s office has already started an investigation due to mass power outages. A criminal case has been initiated. It turned out that the poles had been in service for almost 60 years.

The press service of Rosseti Severo-Zapad reported that the cause of the outage was a technological failure on the overhead power line. Later it became known that 5 poles collapsed.

In the Leninsky district, rotational power outages have been introduced, and trolleybuses in Murmansk have changed routes.

Murmansk residents were told where they can go to warm up and charge electronic devices. And city entrepreneurs are ready to provide food from their main menu at a discount. Also, interactive maps have been prepared for citizens. The Murmansk authorities announced addresses where there will be no power.

The consequences of the accident are being addressed, Rosseti Severo-Zapad brought additional snowmobiles and all-terrain vehicles to the emergency site, the first poles have already been delivered to the Polar region from Karelia. Meanwhile, communication disruptions are being observed in the region. Major city hotels have already joined in helping residents: they can charge devices and eat at a discount.
