Roman Shirokov assumed the position of head of the Comprehensive Urban Improvement Center of St. Petersburg on January 29, according to data from the SPARK system. The change in leadership of the institution responsible for major improvement tenders coincided with an audit by the Control and Accounts Chamber.

As a source told Fontanka, the audit covers the period when the improvement committee was headed by Sergei Petrichenko. Against this backdrop, instead of Viktor Mironov, the new head of the center became Shirokov, who previously held the post of director of the State Institution «Management for Improvement and Utilities of the Admiralteysky District».

Roman Shirokov was previously summoned for questioning by the Investigative Committee in connection with a criminal case concerning the improvement of a square on Rizhsky Prospekt, 25. The investigation found that prices for the project, which included a pumpkin-shaped slide, were artificially inflated, and the cost difference was siphoned off through controlled individual entrepreneurs. The case is also linked to bribery.

In this criminal case, former deputy head of the administration Igor Komarov has already been convicted, and currently, the court is considering the case of district head Sergei Overchuk. Despite being summoned by the Investigative Committee, Roman Shirokov himself did not become a suspect in this case.
