According to medical data, schizoaffective disorder combines symptoms of schizophrenia and mood disorder.

Friends from rehabilitation have been discussing the tragedy and its profound impact on those who knew the family.

At the time of the murder, it is unclear whether Nick, who has been to rehab at least 18 times, was using drugs. Some insiders believe he relapsed due to improper medication use and allegedly killed his parents in a rage induced by methamphetamine.

‘Nick is completely detached from reality,’ said the insider. ‘He seems unable to comprehend what he did.’

Meanwhile, prominent attorney Alan Jackson, who officially ended his representation of Nick on January 7, stated that his former client is ‘not guilty of murder’ under California law.

Danny Swilar, a former rehab neighbor of Nick, claims he knew Nick killed his parents when the murder news hit the headlines. ‘As soon as I saw that Rob Reiner and his wife Michelle were killed, I immediately knew who did it,’ Swilar admitted.

He expressed doubt that Nick could claim insanity. ‘I would not like Nick to try to use this defense when in fact he told me how much he hates his parents, especially his father,’ added the former acquaintance.

Despite Nick’s alleged hatred for his parents, Swilar claims that Rob and Michelle did everything they could to help their son. ‘Nick had no sense of gratitude, no acknowledgment,’ said Swilar. ‘He was just a pompous little bully. He just wanted to be free, smoke weed, take pills, do whatever, and his family just wanted him to get help.’

Swilar recalled how Nick once turned against him. ‘At first he was quite friendly, quite funny,’ he noted. ‘But at the same time, there was a side to him that could just flip.’ He recalled an incident when he compared Nick to John Travolta’s son, who died, and that infuriated him.

‘We had a good relationship at first, but then I said, «Oh my God, that’s who you look like.» After that, everything went bad,’ he recalled. ‘He definitely tried to get aggressive with me. He tried to hit, and then staff had to intervene. He got in my face and swung his fist.’

Before the argument, according to Swilar, they talked at night after lights out, and some things Nick said worried him greatly. ‘Because I am a 15-year-old boy in one room with someone who has a serious addiction. It was very, very frightening, but also an insane new experience for me,’ he added.

The former neighbor also recalled that Rob and Michelle were involved in their son’s recovery. ‘Rob and Michelle were at every family group. They were at every therapy session,’ said Swilar. ‘They didn’t have to give me the time of day. I played frisbee with Rob. Rob Reiner, for God’s sake. They just wanted him to get well. He really had no reason to hate them.’

‘Whether it was a relapse or his mental disorder, I don’t know,’ said Swilar, adding that the murders sent shivers down his spine, and he has been texting old mutual friends from rehab about the aftermath of the tragedy. ‘Everyone knew it was him,’ asserted Swilar, noting that Rob and Michelle ‘did everything they could for him. They just wanted him to be healthy—and he didn’t want to be healthy.’
