At a press conference by Governor Andrei Chibis, journalists thanked him for the repair of the road to Teriberka and inquired about plans for road works in 2026.

— There were complaints about the condition of the road to Teriberka, but now it«s better. It»s important to understand that this was a very difficult infrastructure project. First and foremost, we did it not for visitors to the Polar Region, but for northerners. The logic was to give residents of the region the opportunity to get in the car with their family, reach the sea in an hour and a half, and see the beauties of the north, — replied the head of the region.

He added that this year, the road campaign will continue under the national project «Infrastructure for Life».

— We plan to have all contracts signed by April.

As reported on the government website, the list of regional roads to be repaired under the national project includes 6 facilities with a total length of over 32 km: sections of the roads Umba – Kandalaksha, Mishukovo – Snezhnogorsk, Kola – Serebryanskie HPP with access roads, Kola – Zverosovkhoz, and access roads to Polyarnye Zori and Pechenga.

Repairs are planned on bridge structures over a stream and over the Teriberka River at the 7 and 56 km marks of the road Kola – Serebryanskie HPP with access roads, and over the Zapadnaya Litsa River at the 3 km mark of the access road to Zaozersk. Also, the overpass at the left-bank interchange of the bridge across the Kola Bay will be updated.

Work is scheduled to equip dangerous sections with road barriers, install signal posts to separate traffic flows, and set up road signs.

One of the 2026 facilities was completed last year: the contractor was able to start work on the access road to Olenegorsk, with 3.3 km brought up to standard.

A separate list of sections has been compiled for Murmansk. Eight sections are to be updated, of which three facilities are already under contract: these are sections on Academician Pavlov Street, from the circle to Radishchev Street, on Radishchev Street, from Academician Knipovich Street to Kuybyshev Street, and on Shevchenko Street, from building No. 36a on Shevchenko Street to the Eastern Bypass Road.

Five more facilities that will undergo repairs:

  • Academician Knipovich Street with sidewalk repairs (from Polyarnye Zori Street to Radishchev Street);

  • Skalnaya Street with sidewalk repairs;

  • Bering Street with sidewalk repairs;

  • Yuri Gagarin Street, section from the intersection of Heroes-Severomortsev Avenue to Pavlik Morozov Street with sidewalk repairs and Pavlik Morozov Street, section from Gagarin Street to Sverdlov Street with sidewalk repairs;

  • Captain Egorov Street, from Lenin Avenue to building No. 17 on Captain Egorov Street with sidewalk repairs.

About the press conference

Andrei Chibis«s press conference lasted more than four hours. Journalists, bloggers, as well as public administrators and channel operators gathered: we showed what treats they were greeted with at the event. The event began with a presentation by the governor, in which he detailed how he sees the development of Murmansk Oblast in 2026.

The first question asked to the governor was about gas prices. Next, Andrei Chibis answered whether the deadlines for major repairs would be accelerated. He was also asked what will happen with garbage in the region and if new productions will appear.

Journalist 51.RU Alexandra Balaba asked the governor if anything can be done about fish prices: in Vladimir Putin«s opinion, Russians lack this product in their diet.

The press conference was very emotional at times, at one point Andrei Chibis sincerely admitted who he«d like to punch in the face. The governor was also asked a sharp question about the resettlement of dilapidated housing. Questions were raised about the renewal of Severomorsk, about which business helps develop the region and about key Arctic projects.

Many topics were raised at the meeting with journalists: what savings will lead to in the budget sphere, why snow in Murmansk is black again, what is happening with medicine, how to speed up the process of resettlement from dilapidated housing.
