Road Accident Summary for Tambov Oblast July 20

On July 20, six road traffic accidents occurred in Tambov Oblast. One person died, five were injured with varying degrees of severity, including one minor driver. Accidents were recorded in Tambov, Michurinsk, Rasskazovo, as well as in the territories of Muchkapsky, Tambovsky, and Zherdevsky municipal districts. By type of incident, four vehicle collisions, one rollover, and one pedestrian collision were registered.

The first accident occurred at 3:25 in the town of Zherdevka at house No. 64 on Oktyabrskaya Street. The driver of a Lada Priora (male, born 2006) struck a pedestrian (male, born 1987) who was on the roadway without intending to cross. The pedestrian died from his injuries in the ambulance while being transported to the hospital. The State Traffic Safety Inspectorate (Gosavtoinspektsiya) reminds: according to paragraph 4.1 of the Russian Traffic Regulations, «Pedestrians must move along sidewalks, pedestrian paths, bicycle-pedestrian paths, and in their absence, along shoulders... In the absence of sidewalks, pedestrian paths, bicycle-pedestrian paths or shoulders, as well as in case of impossibility to move along them, pedestrians may move along a bicycle path or walk in a single row along the edge of the roadway (on roads with a dividing strip — along the outer edge of the roadway)... When moving along the edge of the roadway, pedestrians must walk facing the direction of vehicle traffic... When crossing the road and moving along shoulders or the edge of the roadway at night or in conditions of poor visibility, pedestrians are recommended, and outside populated areas pedestrians are required, to have items with retroreflective elements and ensure that drivers can see these items.»

At 14:50 in Tambov at house No. 71 on Sovetskaya Street, the driver of a Regulmoto motorcycle (male, born 2006) failed to maintain a safe distance and collided with a Lada Vesta traveling in the same direction, driven by a man born in 1950. The motorcycle driver was taken to the hospital with injuries. The State Traffic Safety Inspectorate notes that in accordance with paragraph 9.10 of the Russian Traffic Regulations, «A driver must maintain such a distance from the vehicle ahead as to avoid collision, as well as the necessary lateral interval to ensure traffic safety.»

The third accident was recorded at 19:30 in the village of Chashchino, Muchkapsky Municipal District, at house No. 2 on Molodezhnaya Street. The driver of a Chevrolet Niva (male, born 1947) at an uncontrolled intersection of equal roads failed to yield to an unregistered Motoland motorcycle approaching from the right, driven by a minor boy born in 2011 who did not have a driver«s license. As a result of the collision, the minor motorcycle driver was hospitalized with multiple injuries. The State Traffic Safety Inspectorate reminds: according to paragraph 13.11 of the Russian Traffic Regulations, »At an intersection of equal roads, except for the case provided for in paragraph 13.11(1) of the Rules, a driver of a non-rail vehicle must yield the road to vehicles approaching from the right...«

Over the past day, traffic police officers (DPS) removed six intoxicated drivers from driving and 12 people who did not have the right to drive vehicles. The State Traffic Safety Inspectorate urges parents not to allow children under 16 and teenagers without driver«s licenses to operate motor vehicles. »Do not buy «toys» for your children; think that the unreasonable actions of children who go out on the roads and lack the necessary skills can bring not joy, but grief!« the agency emphasizes. Parents are strongly advised not to hand over keys to any vehicles to children and to forbid them from driving mopeds, scooters, and motorcycles without licenses, protective gear, and necessary skills.

The Directorate of the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs for Tambov Oblast reminds of the need to strictly observe traffic rules and asks to promptly report drivers who are suspected of driving while intoxicated to the nearest DPS patrol or to the duty station by phone: 8(4752)53-40-67 or via the single police number 102. These same numbers can be used to report pedestrians who are moving on the roads at night or in conditions of poor visibility without reflective elements and are poorly visible on the roadway.
