Riverbank Cameras Planned to Curb Reckless Boating

Yevgeny Lyulin, Chairman of the Legislative Assembly of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, stated that reckless boaters will receive fines based on data from automatic cameras. The regional parliament will consider the corresponding bills next week.
The draft federal laws have already been approved by the Legislative Assembly«s committee on transport and road infrastructure. According to Lyulin, their goal is to establish order on waterways similar to that on roads. It is planned to adopt two bills:
- The first will amend the Inland Water Transport Code, granting regions the right to install surveillance cameras along riverbanks. Their locations will be published in open access.
- The second document proposes amendments to the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation.
«Break the rules — get a fine, which will be issued based on data from automatic cameras. The offender will receive information about the fine as promptly as traffic violators and bear the same responsibility for non-payment,» explained Yevgeny Lyulin.
Earlier, Nizhny Novgorod announced the installation of new cameras to record traffic violations on Bolshaya Pokrovskaya Street by the beginning of February. In addition, in January, surveillance systems began operating at a dangerous railway crossing near Balakhna (Nizhny Novgorod Region), where several accidents involving electric trains have occurred in recent years.
