A Steller«s sea eagle, listed in Russia»s Red Book of protected species, was rescued in Nizhny Novgorod. Employees of the Limpopo zoo found it in a synthetic bag in a parking lot, according to the press service of Rosprirodnadzor (the Federal Service for Supervision of Natural Resources).

It is unknown who abandoned the bird in the parking lot. The sea eagle needed urgent help — a veterinary examination revealed a wing injury and exhaustion. To save the bird, Rosprirodnadzor permitted its removal from the natural habitat.

Specialists determined the sea eagle is three years old. It is now receiving the necessary veterinary care.

«After its recovery, a decision will be made regarding the bird»s future and the possibility of releasing it back into the wild,« Rosprirodnadzor added.

The Steller«s sea eagle is considered one of the largest birds of prey on the planet. The weight of adults reaches 7–9 kg (15–20 lbs). Its range covers the northwestern part of the Pacific Ocean — Kamchatka, the Kuril Islands, and the Shantar Islands.

Recall that in January, rare birds typically found in the Siberian taiga were spotted in Nizhny Novgorod. Common rosefinches were photographed while feasting on rowan berries in the Sovetsky District.
