Railway Derailment Causes Fire in Tambov Region

At Kohetovka-3 station in Tambov Region, freight train cars carrying fuel and lubricants derailed, causing a fire. Fire departments with 20 pieces of equipment are working at the scene, and fire trains have been sent. On the orders of Governor Yevgeny Pervyshov, an operational headquarters has been established in Michurinsk under the leadership of his deputy, Yevgeny Zimenko.

«There is no threat to residential buildings. Information about casualties is being clarified. The causes of the fire will be determined after it is extinguished. The situation is under control,» Yevgeny Pervyshov said on social media. Russian Railways suspended traffic through Kohetovka station, causing delays of passenger trains in the southern direction. Up-to-date information can be obtained in the mobile app «RZD Passengers» and on the company’s website. Consideration is being given to rerouting trains along an alternative route; passengers are receiving necessary assistance, and a comfortable temperature is maintained in the cars.

«The scene is cordoned off. Emergency services are working on site. I ask all residents to remain calm and, if possible, avoid the area of operations,» said the head of Michurinsk, Maxim Kharnikov.
